SWIM makes a comeback! Ukiyo Studios x Southeast Asian Games at Taipei Game Show 2024

Melbourne, Australia 30th January 2024 - Ukiyo Studios, a Melbourne-based games marketing agency, is pleased to share that “SEA What I Made! (SWIM)” was showcased at Taipei Game Show 2024. SWIM is a collection of games made in Southeast Asia which first kicked off to much success at PAX Australia 2023.

This time, four SWIM games made up the Ukiyo Studios Southeast Asian delegation to Taipei. Amongst them, two games were selected to join the Ukiyo Studio booth on the show floor. Kooeh: A Timeless Delight by Twilight Foundry is a cosy and heartwarming restaurant management game about recollecting lost family recipes and reviving the family restaurant. Made in Malaysia, the game is heavily inspired by Malaysian culture and cuisine. Overhours by CtrlD Studio is a single-player action tower defence game with shooter elements. Set in an alternate universe, a fictional agency is being invaded by monstrous beings. Players must use traps and special abilities to help eradicate the disruptive horrors within.

As part of the Ukiyo Studios’ Publisher Pitch Day, two additional Southeast Asian games also joined the mix. Publisher Pitch Day was the first event of its kind at Taipei Game Show that invited trusted and credible publishers a first access to many indie games that have never been seen before. Nusantara Adventures by Moordoor is an action roguelike and resource management tactics game. Set in a fictional world inspired by the history of the Malay Sultanate, players will experience deep combat while exploring the unique settings of the lore. Midwest 90: Rapid City is a story focused survival-tycoon game about building an all-American restaurant that serves monster meat dishes while also protecting the diner from monster attacks.

“We were thrilled with the success of SWIM at PAX Australia 2023. It was incredibly heartwarming to see Australians resonate with the games and especially the unique and cultural stories behind them,” says David Cardenas, Co-Founder and Director at Ukiyo Studios.

“It makes us happy to report back that we saw similar levels of excitement for these games at Taipei Game Show this past weekend. There’s clear talent emerging from Southeast Asia, which is why we want to keep supporting indie developers from this region. Taipei Game Show sees over 300,000 consumers each year, so it’s a great opportunity for us all.”

Ukiyo Studios will be showcasing at eight other events this 2024 and we’re always looking to increase Southeast Asian representation at these shows. Interested SEA developers and publishers can reach out to us to discuss opportunities.
